P3D Re: PHOTO-3D digest 2588

>>>Can we please define "snapshooting" here? I would say "Realist" is
better
for "casual photography", i.e. documenting one's life, family, vacation,
etc. Not artistic photography, not PSA salon-type quality (not that this
cannot be achieved with a Realist), but precious memories, the reason that
many people got into 3d in the first place and the reason many people
(myself included) are still here. (Note: by "Realist" I mean the system
based on stereo cameras, including Belplasca and FED, and slides mounted in
the standard American stereo format)

Come on, this is getting to be a big discussion about a truly ridiculous
issue. Are you saying that people who take photographs make a conscience
decision when they shoot? "Say, today, I think I will go out and just take
snapshots, not any 'PSA Style Salon' views". Nuts! I would bet that a large
percentage of Stereo Photographers enter images they have taken in the
general course of life. I never enter my images; most are crap.

You made the comment: Not artistic photography, not PSA salon-type quality
(not that this
cannot be achieved with a Realist). I would bet that many winning
"Salon-type" images are taken with Realists and without conscientiously
thinking if the image is good enough to enter in a competition.

As far as why people get into Stereo Photography, who knows. Poll the list
members and you will get a thousand different answers. I started with
Stereo so I could photograph Gem and mineral specimens, and macro stereo
because I wanted to photograph postage stamps. Stereo images tell me if the
embossed areas of some stamp issues were made before or after printing, a
clue to their authenticity. It also helped that I worked with Stereo
Photographers. I now use Stereo at work to produce 3D assembly
illustrations.

Finally, you made this comment:

>>(Note: by "Realist" I mean the system
>>based on stereo cameras, including Belplasca and FED, and slides mounted
in
>>the standard American stereo format)

A Realist is a Realist. what do you mean by the comment? It seems silly to
me.
