P3D Flourescent lamps for viewers

I have a King Inn 6x6 cm stereo pair viewer.  It has 2 flourescent lamps
behind the slide. These are turned off and another one lighted in front for
viewing prints.  I have been very happy with the quality of the lenses and
of the illumination.  The lamps are powered by an inverter running off
batteries or an AC adaptor.

This method may not work as well for 35mm format.
