This footage has been mentioned on photo-3d many times in the past.
The footage was filmed during the 1991 dive on the Titanic wreck site
by the two Russian MIR submersibles. It was the same dive during which
footage was recorded for the IMAX movie TITANICA and the NBC(?) special
"TITANIC - The hidden secrets" (I think that was the title).

Emory (Staff Photographer at NGS) used a pair of side-by-side mounted
underwater video cameras to film the footage. The video was recorded
using a pair of Betacam SP decks.

This footage has been shown at a number of venues including recently
at the Stereoscopic Displays and Applications conference in January.
For display, a range of technologies can be used but we used a pair of
3 gun video projectors rear-projecting onto the QD technologies' 3D Black
Screen. The source material was separate left and right tapes (kindly
supplied by Emory) played back either from a pair of Betacam SP decks or
a single Betacam SP tape (in the StereoGraphics side-by-side format)
playing from a single Betacam machine. A pair of QD line doublers
were also used to eliminate the visibility of the NTSC line structure.

The footage is absolutely stunning. It looked fantastic on the large
screen.

Cheers,
Andrew Woods.
