I think there are two aspects to be considered.

Artistic creativity and technical creativity.  

Nothing requires you to be "competetive" to the point of affecting your
happiness.

Entering a competetion is a good way of getting constructive feedback. 
The opinion of the judges aside .... after all you can not always get
good, unbiased judges at the olympics!  The feedback from your
competitors is often more helpful, especially when it indicates that
your composition could have been enhanced by techniques you were unaware
of.

I don't know how you judge or award technical creativity.  Many of us
are constrained by cash available for this pastime/calling and
cost/effectiveness could be one criteria.  I forsee a competition that
could be won on anything from a camera to a spreadsheet.  Even techies
respond to a friendly competetion.  I'm thinking of an annual judging of
projects and like contributions made available on web pages, not just a
physical attendance at an event.

Suggestions?
