What I have noticed that it's more of a cautionary note (or
at least that is what I read into it!). I thought the message
was it can be used to good effect if one is aware that it has
to be done with care.
Personally I would love to see all 3-D images stick out (I mean
out the stereo window) but very few images work well IMO or
are good candidates and that's why it's important to know
WHEN and HOW (not that I know all the reasons) to stick stuff
out the win3Dow (tm).
With the holy grail of trying to replicate reality (sharp life-
like images, ortho-stereo, etc.) I find it funny that we don't
complain about the distraction the window itself presents!
Let's smash it and be done with it!!! Of course this would be
hard to accomplish with small size projection systems, but in
slide viewing I always found it distracting looking through the
window frame. It makes me feel like a 3-D peeping Tom.
Now, if you'd like to see "flat" pennies sticking out the window,
check out my2cents at http://www.generation.net/~jacob/my2cents.jpg
They're waiting for you to pick them up as color anaglyphs.
