Hi Dan - got the cd this morning. Random notes so far...
It works fine on my Win95 machine and also under Linux on the
server In fact, if you want to look at it, connect to
http://calcite.rocky.edu/ftpdir/cdrom/
(which is somewhat "hidden" from the outside). Although you have a
"default.htm" at the top level, I wonder if you want to duplicate
that with an "index.htm(l)" file - many browsers are set to look
for that as the top level page. On the other hand, that means that
if you look at the disc via a browser, you can't see the "normal"
directory structure. This was a real problem (how to allow both kinds
of access) when I was settup up the photo-3d ftp site, although I finally
found a configuration that worked (if you look closely there is a
subsidary link at the bottom of the search engine page which will break
you out of that screen and into a "standard" directory display).
I note that on photo-3d you have a link to the archives here - I'd suggest
you change it to
http://calcite.rocky.edu/photo-3d
rather than just pointing to the top level - that might be confusing to
people.
Also, if you browse around a bit on calcite, you'll find
information on some of the antique views - the "city" scene is Baltimore,
and also there are some anaglyphs of the Mark Twain images.
Additionally, if you go to my home page
http://calcite.rocky.edu/~wier
you can see some other stuff you can include.
As far as that goes, since you've only got a couple of hundred meg
so far, I have a bunch of antique views I can scan in as well if you'd
like. I note on some of the other antique views, whomever scanned them
ended up with relatively severe blue chrominance noise (giving the
"rainbow" effect). If you have Photoshop, I can give you some instructions
on how to reduce that significantly.
On reading it with the Mac -- so far I've determined that you HAVE to
have the ISO9660 extension installed, the format you have is not
directly Mac readable. That's part of system 7.5 (although it may have
been available earlier). If not, that would make the disk inaccessible
to people using older versions of the operating system (for example, I was
running 7.3.1 up until relatively recently). Lemme check to see when that
became available.
More later on as I look at stuff.
THANKS
Bob Wier
