P3D Furshlugginer MADness
... So, I wondered if I was following the rapid growth and death of the
3-D craze in the reprints of Mad.
Reprint #1, Oct.'52 to Mar.'53, no references to 3-D.
Reprint #2, April '53 to Aug. '53, two references to 3-D (well, one, if
you're outrageously conservative).
Reprint # 3, Oct. '53 to Feb. '54, seven references (well, five, if
you're one who thinks "The Origin of Species" should be sold in a plain,
brown wrapper).
Reprint #4 (on your newsstand this week), April '54 to June '54, only two
measly references until... an ENTIRE ARTICLE showing how 3-D is
destroying the whole fabric of society, or, at least, Mad Magazine.
,
Get your bets down: how many references will appear in reprint #5? Had
the craze faded out of sight by September '54?
Russ Ruhlen
P.S. I don't know how many think Mad Magazine is appropriate for p3d,
just figured it might be out of place in tech-3d.
P.P.S. $3.99 for reprints of ten cent comics? Reprints don't even
require original stories or art work. But, then, it took $7 to get into
"The Full Monty" last week and back in them days we used to see the Saturday
western, with cartoon and Captain ChezWhiz serial, for only nine cents.
