P3D Mike Water's question on 2x2 viewers
- From: "Lawrence A. Haines" <lhaines@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Mike: I have been using a wonderful new 2x2 viewer that I bought after
being in Holland at the World Stereo Congress last spring. It was made
by Jacob Van Ekeren from Holland. His e-mail address is
<j.ekeren@xxxxxx>. This viewer cost me $255.00. I do not know if Mr.
Ekeren would be interested in making another viewer for you, but you
could ask him. The viewer is made of a black plastic material which,
though it is not metal, seems quite sturdy. When I first saw one in
Holland I was concerned because it did not have interocular adjustment.
Mr. Ekeren said in answer to my question and concern on this matter that
it did not need such adjustment since the lenses were large enough to
compensate. I was frankly skeptical but since using it regularly and
handing it to others to view, I am convinced that the big lenses are
adequate. It does have focusing. The light source in my viewer is a
Halogen 6V 0.7A bulb using an E10 socket. It is quite bright and
there is a sliding switch to vary the illumination. Provision is made
to use either two 2x2 slides or a standard RBT mount. So one can use
almost all mounts currently in use. One thing I did note to him was
that there was no relief for my Roman nose. When I use glasses to view
that is no problem. But without glasses my nose bumps a 90 degree edge
if I am not careful. Mr. Ekeren indicates he can correct the problem if
I want to send the viewer back. But frankly I use it almost everyday
and I do not want to be without it. I am going to ask him to build me
another. One of the most attractive features for me is that this
particular viewer use a standard Sony Video camera battery for power.
These batteries seem to last a long time in this service and are
convenient to recharge. He had other power systems if I remember
correctly but I was not interested in those. I would be happy to take a
digital picture of the camera and send it to you by e-mail if you would
like.
