Since a scanner is focused very accutely at the surface of the
> glass, with no depth of field at all, your results will be blurry, no

   Not all scanners have such narrow depth-of-field.  My brother showed
this by scanning his Canon Dial 35 by placing it face down on his UMAX
scanner.  The chrome front panel, which was more than 2cm behind the
shutter speed/filter attachment ring (which in turn was at the scanner
surface) was still very sharp.
