P3D Re: realist / twin rig recap
Thanks, Boris, for the Realist/Twin-rig Recap. I've been considering
selling my Realist Custom (I have a regular 3.5, and don't care about
collectability) and turn around and purchase two Canon Rebel G's and
maybe a Jasper twinning bar (or make my own). I've looked through the
list of advantages and disadvantages and was left with weight and bulk
as the disadvantage. It seems I can always remount my slides in Realist
format mounts and use A Themelized 7 perf Kodaslide II. The only other
drawback is that of camera separation (even when put base to base they
are still goin to be nearly 80mm? apart). Someone once said that as
long as I keep my subjects at least 10 feet away from the camera, the
hyperstereo won't be so bad. I've also gotten the impression that I can
take great portraits if I mount the cameras base to base and I use 80+mm
lenses.
I have some general questions for those who are shooting with twin rigs.
What kinds of cameras are you using?
What cameras would you recommend to keep my total kit under $1000?
What lenses should I start with (50mm)?
What about Zoom lenses, are they too hard to sync?
I saw the posting on diodes for splicing the shutter release wires; any
comments?
How is flash sync?
What do you do for flash photography, did you make a special bracket?
Do you do handheld or mostly Tripod work?
Any comments regarding pictures being too Hyperstereo?
Do you mostly do base to base or side by side twinning?
Any other advice, suggestions, recommended articles?
Thanks in advance.
