   Actually......
 During the Northern Hemisphere spring and summer, The Sun rises north
of east.
 During the Northern Hemisphere Fall and Winter, The Sun rises south of
east.
 At the North Pole, The Sun rises in the south, since every direction is
to the south.
 And, at the South Pole, The Sun rises in the north, as every direction
is to the north.
(forgive me, I had to do this because of how strongly I agree with your
point !! :-)
