P3D Re: Stereo World - A citical view (sic)

I would like to echo Dr. T's comments to some extent, regarding the focus
of Stereo World. I've only received about two or three issues of Stereo
World, so I had no expectations, really; but I was disappointed to find
very little of use to me, a beginning (and I admit ambitious) stereo
photographer.

Indeed, I found out about the PSA International Exhibitions, and entered my
first one back in October, because of a notice in !3D Magazin!. I thought
it odd that the Potomac Exhibition was not listed in Stereo World's
calendar. Had I not discovered it in 3D Magazin, just a few days before
the closing date, who knows how many months would have passed before my
first efforts at competition. It is just a little odd, that I had to
receive a foreign-language magazine, in order to learn about a stereo
exhibition that was being held practically in my own back yard.

But I don't want to disparage Stereo World in any way. They have their own
history, and an emphasis based on tradition. Why do the Germans publish
what must be the best magazine in the World, devoted to a genre of
photography with so many followers in the U.S.? Who knows? (I feel they
also publish the best magazine available to amateur astronomers - maybe
it's because the Germans are born engineers!). I think it would be nice to
have an American magazine of even half the quality of 3D Magazin, devoted
similarly to contemporary stereo photography. But I will not be the one to
put it together, I think.

Judging from the contributions to this list, it seems there are enough
people with talent, expertise, and typing skills, to put such a magazine
together.

I would like to ask Alexander Klein, how such a fine publication as 3D
Magazin can make ends meet in what must be a relatively small market - in
Germany. Do they have a lot of overseas subscribers? How many subscribers
does it take to support the magazine? Are a large fraction of the
magazines sold on newsstands?

Surely the Market is much larger in the U.S., so why should such a magazine
not fly here?

Respectfully submitted,
