P3D IMAX Returns to Polarization

In the recent double issue of SW (Stereo World) there was a short
article (pg.14) about a new 3-D IMAX theater in Los Angeles. In it
they mention they will be using the polaroid glasses as opposed to
LCS glasses. I was happy to read this (not that I'll be in that
area any time soon). I had seen the polaroid type versions a few
times and when I finally got to see the LCS types I was very
disappointed at the poor coverage of the glasses. I did comment on
it later on P3D. I wondered how the IMAX people could take one step
forward and two steps backward in this regard.
It was interesting to read in the article that the IMAX people do
acknowledge this fact among other disadvantages. Ironically the last
time I had gone to see a 3-D IMAX movie the LCS headsets were not
functioning and they were relying on the polarized portion of the
LCS headsets to decode the 3-D. Personally other than the poor field
of view of the LCS glasses, I didn't find they offered any advantages
over polaroid glasses. Audio-wise, the LCS headsets were said to
offer much improved sound, but this could be incorporated into
polaroid glasses very easily.
