The gasket is made out of paper board that gets hard from years of pressure
from the shutter blades. You can work the gasket to try to soften it up
again and put it back in the other way around be sure to snip off the
corner on the other side if you do this. Works about 1/2 the time. Or you
can go to a place that sells gasket material 
( automotive supply etc.) and try to match a similar thickness. A small
piece is all that needed, it's about 1/4" by 1" ( before you write, I am
guessing from memory )
