P3D Comparing Revere's
A couple of years ago I found a Revere 33 camera which
looked nice on the outside but had a (known) shutter
problem. I decided to buy it nevertheless, being quite
sure that I could fix that. After disassembly it turned
out to be that one of the former owners of this nice
piece of equipment had his first 'dremel and glue'
experience on this one. There was even some kind of
blistering glue in the shutter mechanism. Whole parts
of the interior were filed away. There were screws
missing and broken. I decided to keep it for all that.
Last week I bought another Revere 33 from the first
owner. He bought it back in 1961, new, in the USA.
This time I had a lot more luck. It works flawlessly and
it looks great. I always have thought that the Revere
only had one type of 'body' and three variations on
a lens theme (Wollensak, Enna Chromar and Amaton).
Closer inspection of the two camera's revealed a lot
of differences however. Have a look for yourself :

I admit, these are not all world shaking differences, but then again.
What surprises me most are the 'hot-shoe', no bump, and the extra
flash contact. I've never seen a Revere without a bump (life, in books,
www). The extra flash contact, is it meant for a dedicated flash ?
The newer camera came with a Revere type 24 flash unit with a 'raised'
foot, which fits nicely. Also the finishing, matte vs. chrome, black vs.
chrome, different lettering, loading instructions and so on.
Can anybody out there, who is more knowledgeable than me, shine
some light on this ?
Thanks very much for your time.
Cheers,
