P3D RE: P3D Roll your own light box?

I made my own light box by first making a box from wood, 10"X12", about
6" high. I then mounted a circular fluorescent fixture inside (8"), and
an electrical box with a light switch and power cord. The light fixture
cost $20, but interestingly enough there was a rebate from Boston Edison
of the full $20! I put a sheet of white translucent material on the top
(cut from a sheet used for ceiling fixtures - I had to buy a 2'X4'
sheet). I didn't like how the top sagged, so I cut a piece of glass to
put on top of that.
It works but is kind of big and clunky. I scrounged much of the
material, and the light fixture was free, but still it cost to buy the
bulb, white sheet, glass, electrical box. If I had to do it again I
would buy one. :)
