P3D Shab Levy's posting on the SSA is right on track.  It is a wonderful
activity and the postal folios are a excellent means of communication. 
You can tell a lot about a person by the kind of stereographs they
include in the folios and by their comments, and often complete lack of
comments, on the envelopes and in the notebooks which accompany all
folios. All the folios seem to develope their own personalities, all are
friendly and encouraging, but some are more so, and all of them are
always welcome.  When you think about it, these folios have been
constantly moving since 1919 (with a short break during WWII).  The boxes
wear out after 3 or 4 rounds and are replaced by the secretary, but the
contents remain pretty constant.

The one SSA social event is the annual Friday night supper at the NSA
Conventions.  This started in 1986 at the Riverside Convention and has
become an event that is enjoyed by all.  There have been highs and lows
for this event also- One of the highs was the supper at Rochester, in
1996, organized by Dick Twichell and attended by a record number of SSA
members, the low was at the Philly Convention , in 1987, when there was
one SMALL table filled with SSA folks (we still had a good time)  Anyway,
if you are an SSA member and going to attend NSA Richmond, put this event
on your schedule.

Many SSA members enter the various stereo exhibitions which are held
around the world,  There are presently 14 stereo slide exhibitions and
nine stereo card exhibitions (I think).  A sampling of the two latest
exhibition catalogs that I received, from Wichita and Chicago, show that
the following number of SSA members had acceptances in these two
exhibitions:

Wichita:  8 out of 38 stereo card entries, 4 out of 83 stereo slide
entries

Chicago:  14 out of 45 stereo card entries, 6 out of 90 stereo slide
entries

In addition, the recently published PSA Stereo Who's Who shows 15 Stereo
Card maker's names and 8 stereo slide producer's names.

The SSA 3rd International Stereo Card Exhibition will be held in July,
with a closing date of the 11th. The first showing of the accepted
entries will be at the Richmond NSA Convention in August, followed by
three more showings in Georgia.  Although it is sponsored by the SSA, it
is recognized by the PSA and is open to all stereographers world wide. 
Newcomers to stereography and international exhibitions are especially
encouraged to submit their works. The SSA Committee (Dick Twichell and I)
welcome all entries.
