I would definitely buy a CD with all the back issues of Stereo World (up to
some recent vintage). However, I do think there could be some problems
with producing this at a reasonable price:
1) Just scanning full pages is really worthless. The text should be OCR'ed
and put into HTML, PDF, or some other searchable, readable format. This
would, however, require a lot of additional effort in proofing and
correcting the OCR'ed text.
2) Since the images in the magazine are already halftoned, simply scanning
them would not result in adequate quality images. They would have to be
"de-screened," another process which can be done in software, but requires
human intervention and checking.
I don't think these are insurmountable problems, but I'm wondering why an
organization like the National Geographic Society, which must surely have
more resources than the NSA, did such a feeble job with their CD.
