P3D scans

Bitmapped scans are a bit of a strain on the eyes - using the "sharpen
more" filter on Photoshop can help with that. OCRing the text (from
Stereo World) would be better. Someone mentioned that there's quite a
lot of work to be done with correcting OCRed text. When the scanned text
comes from a photocopy, then it's nightmarish; from an original printed
publication, it's not so bad. I'd imagine that the folks at Stereo World
(unless they're living in the dark ages) would already have electronic
versions of at least the past 4 years worth of Stereo World - and they'd
be the ones who'd have to authorize a CD in the first place. Then it's a
piece of cake to use the Adobe Acrobat printer driver (or Adobe
Distiller) to create PDFs. You select Adobe as your printer driver,
print the document, and voila - there you have it.

For issues of Stereo World where there aren't any electronic copies, a
great solution is Adobe Capture. It's a clever little product; first,
you make your scans; then, you set Adobe Capture loose on a directory of
scans. Any text that it's unsure of, it will let you know about - and,
the clever part, you can set it so that if it can't recognize the text,
it will insert a tiny bitmap of the word(s) in question at the same size
of the font its using for the PDF. Works well with photocopied
documents. It's not perfect, but damn, it does a nice job.

I'd be interested in a scanned version of the original Realist manual;
in fact, if it's in the public domain, I'm surprised it hasn't already
been scanned in. Has Reel 3D gotten the right to photocopy the stereo
camera manuals it sells, or are they all in the public domain?
