What has worked for me is to give them a stereo camera to shoot a roll
in a trip or something. Load with 100 ASA film and supply a little table
with "sunny day" instructions (sun out: f16 @ 1/100, etc.) Then I will
mount the first roll (for quick results). People are surprised that they
can actually use this camera (I am talking about the Realist here!) and
take decent pictures with much less effort or complications than they
imagined. Seeing your very own pictures (the one that you took) in 3d is
much more impressive than seeing someone else's. And knowing that it
was not a big deal it is even more impressive! If that does not get
them hooked, nothing will :-).
Weight-shift pairs with print film is another eay to get them hooked.
For viewer, View-Magic seems to be the best choice.
