Easy!

You can use any shutter speed you like, even 1/150.  The only
thing that usually matters it the aperture.  You can set the
flash in one of the automatic modes, say f8, and then set the
camera at f8.  I usually use 1/50 or 1/100 shutter speed.  If
there is no significant ambient light, it does not matter what
speed you use.  Only the aperture matters.

PS.  You can get some creative effects if you use 1 sec shutter 
     speed and flash to photograph moving objects with lights.
