My Vivitar 292's use that same cable. Connects near the hot shoe.
However, there's also a "PC" like cable near the top (or was it the
bottom) used for connecting multiple flashes together (as
well as a place for connecting the remote sensor at the
"other" top/bottom location).
Does the 283 have the multiple-flash PC-looking connector, and might
the slave work there?
