P3D Re: Realist two button
>was wondering what they are.
The first button is for film advance. After you take a picture you
need to momentarily press this button to start advancing. This is
located in the right back side and it has always been there.
The second button is not really a button and the terminology "Realist
two button" is not official or universally accepted. It is a kind of
lever that you can pull out and back to make intentional double
exposures. It is located in the left back side in about half the
Realists in existence.
Older Realists do not offer this feature and nothing stops you from
double-exposing a shot. Around 1954 Realist put this feature where
after you take a picture, you can cock but not fire the shutter. To
fire the shutter without advancing you must pull out this lever.
Many older Realists were retrofitted with this feature (and also a
depth of field scale next to the focusing wheel) so it is not a
reliable way to tell newer from older Realists.
