FYI:

Kodak signs deal with AOL for Internet photo delivery

Kodak's bid to jump-start its digital photo business has taken a
new turn, with the announcement of a three year pact with AOL.
Kodak recent entered an alliance over digital photography and
digital camera development with Intel, and the new deal takes
this a stage further - onto the Internet.

The scheme is simple - AOL subscribers will be able to drop their
rolls of film in to be 'developed,' and now in addition to the
choice of paper or CD, they can have them emailed to them. For a
monthly fee they can also store them on the Web. Exactly what
this will do to the sometimes outage-prone AOL's bandwidth isn't
entirely clear. If the service is a success then millions of AOL
users will be receiving terabytes of digitised pictures, and even
if the quality is set relatively low that's going to have a
severe impact on performance.

Kodak's digital business reportedly lost $500 million last year,
and in February it bought the majority of PictureVision, which
provided it with a small customer base for its own online
venture. The AOL deal however means that a potentially very large
audience can be targeted, and AOL apparently means to market the
system aggressively.
