George-

Your posting couldn't have come at a better time! I, too, am in the
process of analyzing expenses and putting in a recommendation for new
dues. Our club dues are currently $10 for single, $12 for family. A
bargain if ever there was. Unfortunately, this is not enough to run the
club on a regular basis. I fear that we, too, have been relying on
donations to float expenses. As we are an older club, we also have
equipment and maintenance costs to factor in. My job is to convince our
membership that $15 for single and $20 for family memberships is a
reasonable rate.

The Potomac Society of Stereo Photographers in Washington, DC meets once
a month from September to May. We distribute 10 issues of the newsletter
during the year (September to June). At each meeting we have a
competition, which awards 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals; HM ribbons;
and a large trophy for 1st place, which is engraved with the winner's
name and year that the winner holds for one year (the medal is theirs to
keep). Each competition has a topic (such as photojournalism, sequence,
landscape), except the two competitions sponsored by the Greater
Washington Council of Camera Clubs, which has no set topic. We have
several projectors and screens and other miscellaneous equipment (some
of which requires maintenance).

I would be interested in hearing from other clubs on their dues. A brief
description of what your club does would also help (i.e. how many times
a month do you meet, how many months during the year, do you have a
newsletter, do you have competitions, do you give awards ribbons,
trophies, plaques?). Please respond off the list.

Congratulations, OSPS, on your first year! And to George for making it
happen!
