P3D Another Realist advance question

I had what seemed like an odd "Realist advance" encounter this
weekend.  Toward the end of a long (36+) roll, the advance knob
would not stop at the next frame.  It just kept "going and going."
I rewound a few perfs, advanced a little more, and it clicked and
stopped.  To avoid an overlapping exposure, I pressed the lock
release button and turned the advance knob again.  It kept going
and going and going.  Tried the rewind-then-advance routine a
couple more times, but the advance would not stop.  Rewound
completely, loaded a fresh roll, and so far, no problems.  Ideas?
