Hi Gang:

Well, well well...the crafty Reverend beat me to it!

I discovered this same storage unit in my local lumber/hardware/home
fixit store a few months ago, but because of internet problems, I have
been incommunicado to this list for quite some time. I bought one for
about $18 (good find at half the price, Charlie!) and was delighted to
find that it works quite well.

Officially, it's the Stack-On 18-drawer Storage Cabinet, and I cannot
tell if "U.S.A" is part of the name or not. Probably some hokey
jingoism-- it IS made in the USA, though. I haven't bothered to search
the Web for the company, and no company name is on the packaging. I will
ask at the store I got it from as to who manufactures and supplies it.

There are 18 drawers (obviously), each of which can hold about 70-75
cardboard-foldover mounted Realist-format slides, or about 40 RBT mounted
slides. And that leaves a bit of room to flip through them. What I like
most about this system is that the drawers are about half an inch deeper
than the slide, which leaves enough room for a tabbed divider card for
you to categorize them and actually tell what is in each drawer. (It does
not come with dividers.) The very popular Plano 3700 storage boxes do not
have the space allowance to do this--a feature which I felt was sorely
missed.

The box does, in fact, have the ability to be mounted on a wall surface,
or can stand up on a shelf. The drawers are kind of loose, making it
unsuitable to be carried around, but they slide in and out nicely and the
unit doesn't look cheap (by my standards). The drawers are clear,
allowing you to see the first slide or divider while in the "closed"
position.

All in all, I say it's worth a search in your local Home Depot-type
store. If Charlie or I can get some more info, I'm sure we'll pass it on.

I don't have a website yet, but I will provide a scanned picture of the
unit to anyone who e-mails me off-list with the word "bingo" somewhere in
the subject of the message.

Good luck, and it's good to be back!
