 Don't jump to the conclusion that you need to immediately purchase an
 expensive macro lens. A set of (auto) extention tubes and/or a reversing
 adapter will get you started with amazing results, and although macro
 lenses are typically better corrected for close work and may favour
 resolution over contrst, you may never see the difference and/or may
 prefer your standard lens.
 
 I picked up a like-new auto extension tube set for Canon FD a couple of
 years ago for $45 on rec.photo.marketplace, and reversing adapters are
 available new from B&H for around $15...
