Another method of reproducing stereo pairs in a book without the need of a
stereo viewer or even a mirror where you look at one image straight and the
other( which is reverse printed ) in a mirror held between the pair. Is to
print the pairs normaly but with another page between them which is held up
verticaly to act as a septum for viewing and prevents each eye from seeing
the others image. The book does need to be large enough so that the pages
are about the "minimum distance for distinct vision" of about 20 cm or more
. This figure is often quoted as about 25 cm but the problem at this
distance seems more to do with fusion of the two images so that you dont
see double rather than focussing problems. This probably does not occur
with seperate images for each eye, the mirror method also requires it to be
long enough for the imaged to be focussed by the eye. I had the idea for
the septum page method myself some time ago but I have a copy of a
continental magazine not in English which used this method it does not seem
to require the ability to free view but as I can free view easily myself
its hard to be shure about this. I will look out the magazine to check this
information From what I remember it was mostly about stereo video including
the Toshiba camcorder the stereo illustration was of a girl holding a video
cassete out towards the viewer. P.J.Homer
