Paul, when on mountain trails, I often use my twin rig. In my back pack, I'll
have a slide-bar, a light weight tripod (packable) and a macro lens. If a
really appealing subject comes along and I have the time & energy, I'll take a
camera off of the twin rig - put it on the slide bar and tripod and do a few
macros. Of course this is a combersome, time-comsuming endeavor. Your wife
may actually come in handy to hold a flash or loan you the SLR camera (if you
need it). Of course this may be a bit of a bore for her, so I'd recommend
having your own SLR with you.
