        Sorry for not mentioning this before.  I use the "obvious"
(head-slapper) solution.  I print more than one label per label.

        I create my label with more than one slide label per
avery label, then after printing, I cut them before sticking
them on, and if the labels were made in the same sequence
as my stack of slides that I'm labelling, they go on quick
and work just fine.

        How one does things depends upon the program one
is using, but I've been able to do partial-page printing 
where I print just some labels and can go back and print
a few more using the same page.  Whatever your software
lets you do.

        I use the smaller labels and do either two or
three labels per label.
