P3D VR Surf with Tseng ET4000AX?

This *might* be more appropriate in SD-3D but it also might
be of general interest, so I'm asking here.
I got my re-furbed VR Surfer unit (from the EBAY auction) recently
but am drawing a blank on getting it to work in "Advanced" mode. I've
got a generic video card in a low end 486 (at the place here in
Colorado) - a couple of the "Basic" modes work ok with the installation
of the Vesa driver.
I've talked to a couple of people on the list who have similar
set ups but so far haven't located anyone who have gotten this combo
to work (in Advanced mode).
Anyone here have any suggestions? (I need a board in isa configuration, so
have been looking at ebay - I see things like ATI Mach 32 2 Meg cards in
the range of $30 there - maybe that would be an option). My current board
only gives me 15 bit color in SVGA (800*600) so it's pretty limited (but
much better than the built in #*(@(()*^$&!G on the Compaq motherboard!).
THANKS!
