Actually, you'll probably get better results if you convert each image
to gray-scale first, then paste them into the appropriate channels of
a new image. You might also want to tweak the relative brightnesses,
as typically the green gun of a CRT is considerably brighter than the
red, & the blue is much dimmer.
Also it's important to retain all 24 bits/pixel when you save it (i.e.
don't convert to 8-bit--256 color--mode).
