P3D Kids & Viewmaster

There has been some discussion about whether young kids can see stereo in
Viewmaster format. I cannot speak for all kids, but I can vouch for my
three grandsons being able to see VM in stereo. They stayed with us for
six weeks, for two summers and I had ample opportunity to observe and
"test" their stereo vision. I don't have a lot of VM, the 1958 World's
Fair, The Vietnam Reels with Special Forces Action, some Germany Travel
Reels, but enough to entertain 3 young boys. I used a different reel
with each of them and asked them to look at the reels with one eye
closed, then asked them to look a second time with both eyes open. All
three of them made almost the same remark "When I look with one eye, it
is ok, but when I look with both eyes it looks Real" After that I
noticed the oldest one, Pat, would try a one-eyed look occasionally just
to check out the system.

When they got back to Arkansas, one of the first things that Pat told his
father was that his Viewmaster reels look like Really.

They were "raised" on stereoscopes and my BW stereo cards and seemed to
prefer them over VM. Probably because so many of the BW cards have them
as subjects
