P3D Re: Stereo and children

First, I know that my boys (~5 and ~2) can see stereo when presented to
them properly. With my ~5 yr old, he could "see" the screwdriver coming
out of the TV when 3D ExpoII made it to Texas. That was using LCS
shutter glasses and he really enjoyed it. He seems to enjoy viewing
Realist slides through our lighted viewer although I can't specifically
verify whether he sees stereo at this point. I can adjust the inter
ocular spacing and may try some experimentation to verify his stereo
perception.

Now, my ~2 yr old is a different story. At this point, he does NOT view
my 3D selections in stereo because the inter axial (right term?) of the
viewers we have cannot be adjusted for his inter ocular distance. I
have watched him look through one side of the VM viewer to see the
image. Of course, sometimes even that viewing is impaired as he mashes
the eyepiece to his closed eye :-) Still, he wants to "see daddy's
slides" which is very encouraging. I just hope he's still as
enthusiastic at age 13 as he is at age 2! Right now I don't recall how
he views realist slides through our viewer, but it's probably with a
single eye too.

I would expect as kids get a bit older (and grow more) that they would
have an easier time seeing the stereo images in VM as well as other
stereo media. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make some
slides that would test for stereo perception in the very young?

Ron
