P3D Moon Landing VM
Thanks to all of you for the leads on finding the Moon Landding VMs.
I now have them.
Lawrence Kaufman quoted someone as having said, "BTW, am I right in
thinking that it would have to be all conversions?"
Here's my guess:
I'm assuming that the 3D was from stereo cameras because the packet
is
careful about distinguishing which pairs are in 3D and which are not.
About
5 of the pairs on Reel 3 (Most of which takes place on the moon's
surface)
are NOT stereo. The packet says that they were included on the reels
because
of the historical significance. I appreciate the honesty. But that
means
that all other views ARE in stereo, and, I presume, because they used
stereo
cameras. (Not unheard of, at NASA). I can't imagine the astronausts
using
the shift method to take pictures of the command module, from the LEM,
as the
two craft separated. And I don't know if View Master had perfected it's
2D
to 3D conversion process, back in 1969.
Pictures of the lift offs appear to be from stereo cameras, as well.
Since there were PLENTY of photographers taking pictures during this
historic
moment, in 1969, it's reasonable to assume that someone was using a
stereo
camera.
BTW: One lift off shown, was of an earlier mission (Apollo 8, I
think.)
The view was from so far away, that the stereo effect was not very
pronounced. (Presumably not a hyper.)
The lift off of Apollo 11, though, captures many other photographers
in the
foreground. A much more effective view.
All IMHO, and JALOA (just a lot of assumptions),
