P3D Nimslo stereobase
Hi!
I've been thinking about what I just wrote (coulddd be dangerous!)
and about the Nimslo. It would seem that, shooting at the same
distance, the Nimslo, as compared to the Kodak or Realist, since
it has a shorter lens (30mm), should have a bigger stereobase, but
has only 55mm (outer lenses) as compared to 70mm, so is hypo (has a smaller
stereobase than it should) compared to the Kodak or Realist.
Of course, with a shorter lens you tend to move closer so that
you get a big enough image size of the subject on the film.
Nims and Lo also took everything into consideration when they
designed the camera, fixing the focus at 9 feet, and stressing in the
instructions that the Nimslo is really meant for closer subjects.
Of course you really can't do much about the stereobase unless
you're shooting macro with a focusing rail or cha-cha-ing distant
shots (or using inner lens pairs with the Nimslo), and I tend just
to shoot and be happy myself--my brains start to burn if I work with
formulas for too long! Anyone for hacking a Realist
to make the stereobase fully adjustable? :-)
