P3D NSA '98 - overwhelmed!

With everyone else giving their reports, I'm afraid I can only say, "me
too!" I'm sorry to say that I feel I missed about half the convention (if
not more) - though it was still worth the effort to attend, just to meet
all you crazies.
I enjoyed Gabriel's nicknames list... I too had a difficult time putting
the names straight in my head, until I remembered certain P3D connections.
Gabriel gets the "my two anaglyph cents" nickname, Tom Deering and Eric
Drysdale were recognized for their unlikely meeting in Washington Park
(Manhattan?) last fall, and so on.
But I was so tired out by my preparations for the show, that I was unable
to attend any of the Byrd Theater shows, nor bothered with the other social
events, which I regret. During the show, my table was so busy, I could
hardly get away for more than thirty minutes total the entire weekend -
what frustration!!! I got to visit about three tables total! I was lucky
that just about everybody visited me though - or so it seemed. I thank you
all for identifying yourselves and saying hello, and putting up with my
no-doubt confused demeanor.
Here's a tip: if you don't want to walk all over the place to meet famous
people, just hop John Golden's room before the trade show... I was there
for about an hour Thursday (nowhere near enough time btw) trying to balance
my attention between all of his engineering/optics delicacies and a never
ending parade of visiting stereo luminaries. I recall meeting Paul Wing,
Ron Frederickson, Stan White, Pauline Sweezey, etc. etc.
Memory is blurred. Maybe not all of them at the Golden Room, but many!
I am glad that I was able to cajole Dr. T into that Friday evening
gathering at the 3rd Street Diner, where I must say (as I did often) the
service looked really good! Kept getting better looking, too, as the
evening wore on. The place was filled with young and old locals, and had a
great atmosphere and good food. Alex Klein had found the place the day
before - amazing! He's so square and "Bauhaus", how did he do it?! I may
have lived in the U.S. for the last twenty five years, but in the USA he
has outtravelled probably all of us combined - that's how he knows to smell
out the good spots!
¡ propÛs Dr. T... he is so much more shy and reserved in person than I
could ever have imagined having read (and argued) his posts on this list!
A truly nice guy whose company I will miss until next year. Too bad we
didn't get to discuss fixing the bad focus on my Realist after all - ran
out of time - no matter, I don't expect to use the dang thing anyway (he,
he). I wonder, Dr., do I come across so brash and bombastic in person, as
I do internet? I hope only after several beers...
My thanks to John Baird and his son David, who helped me a tremendous
amount at the trade fair - bringing a VREX/computer setup to show my JPS
images, bringing a folding wall for hanging artwork, and covering my table
so that I could take a few minutes leave here and there.
Someone just posted that we need a rogue's gallery, that so few people have
their pictures on the web. Many at the convention were surprised at my
appearance... However, a photo of myself and our cat Emile has resided
within the starosta.com domain for many years. You just have to know where
to look. Hint: you might like good cooking.
That's about it for now, until I post my next sell-3d notices. I have
quite a number of digital sets that were ordered at the convention (I ran
out within the first two hours) that I will be duping next week - I'll take
more orders but will post details in the appropriate list shortly.
Cheers,
Boris
