My significant other and I bought the HP Photosmart printer and scanner a
couple a weeks ago and have been pleased so far. I wanted to buy the Nikon
Coolscan but decided that until I knew what I was doing, it wasn't
worthwhile paying that much money. The only thing I find annoying is that
when you scan film strips, it assumes that the input was a negative and
automatically reverses the colors. I was hoping to scan my uncut Realist
slides to produce stereo prints. I couldn't find anything in the software
that comes with the scanner, Microsoft Picture It, that would reverse the
image back. I have since bought another software package that can handle
the reversals so that problem is now solved. This software Winimages by
Black Belt Systems was recommended to us as a less expensive alternative to
Photoshop.
