P3D Re: HP Photo Smart Scanner

Jim, and all,

I'm not sure if it was in private e-mail or on the list, but I'm sure I
heard somebody say that you could feed a Realist mounted slide into the
HP PhotoSmart one end at a time--scan that end--turn it around and scan
the other. If nobody speaks up, you could post and ask....

I did find Popular Photography and it does have a rebate coupon for the
HP PhotoSmart scanner, good until the end of January 1999, I believe--$100.
The ad says $299 with rebate--maybe somebody got too excited looking at it
and subtracted $100 twice!  :-)  (Actually I got an apology from one
somebody before I finished sending this--no problem--I found what I was
looking for, and $300 ain't bad! I had seen various HP rebate offers, etc.,
and believe me--I talked to a lot of confused salespersons this morning!)

The text of the scanner article says that the PhotoSmart is in a class by
itself--just exactly what I was looking for--well below $500, but much,
much better than the Artec Scanrom I have. The 2400DPI resolution is better
than most if not all of the under-$1000 units. Color is decent if not 
perfect. I have no doubt it will be better than the Scanrom!
