P3D "Instant Anaglyphs"

On May 25, 1997 (if I got the date right), John B posted some comments on
single-lens 3D (SL3D), which mentioned use of red and blue filters ("Songer
patent").

Also, wasn't there a commercial SLR camera lens for sale not too many years
ago that incorporated color filters for stereo? (I seem to have forgotten
the name.)

I seem to recall something about color fringes, and use of out-of-focus
areas of the image to convey stereo information using these techniques.
Does that make them not subject to the limitations recently discussed
for anaglyphs?

John R
