P3D Re: Slide Scanners

I read the September issue of Popular Photography which reviews 9 slide
scanners. I chose the Olympus ES-10S over the HP PhotoSmart for the
following reasons:
It is a parallel interface so I can daisy chain it to my flat bed scanner
and printer. I have run out of IDE slots for the HP SCSI card and would
have to kick out my tape drive or buy a new PCI modem.
It can scan an un-mounted slide. The HP scans all un-mounted strips as
color negs, and all mounted as slides. It may not be able to scan a
Realist slide as a positive. Of course you can invert the image later in
Photo shop/paint.
It is manual focus so you can always get a good scan.
It can scan and read/write APS with an adaptor. You should be able to read
the date and time of each APS photo.
It is $499 list (not much more than the HP).
I have 200 boxes of 2x2's, 50 rolls of APS, and now a few strips of RBT
transparencies from which to select.
I am going through all my old slides looking for family photos to include
in an "Extended WEB family tree" which is 56 family albums written in HTML.
From each album you can link to the parents or children and so move up and
down the extended family tree. This will not be posted but distributed to
family members on a CD. So far I have 316 images included. If anyone is
interested in how it looks, I might post 1 or 2 albums on my web site.
Does anyone have the Olympus ES-10S?
