I will give the same reply that Bob Bloomberg gave when asked what camera
he used to take these pictures. "Which one?"
He showed a few hyperstereos, all taken with a single SLR. Knowning Bob,
I would guess that he did not measure anything. Trial and error. There
is a lot of that in single camera hyperstereo work. His hyper shots blend
with normal stereo extremely smoothly. I have seen other shows where
hypers and normals don't go well together. But Bob is an artist and a
genious at the same time!
So, trial and error (and bracketing too) is the answer for hand held
hypers. Also, if in doubt, use "less" rather than "more". It it easier
to end up with a pair with too much depth than too little depth.
Bottom line: Don't be afraid to experiment. Be happy! Try again and
again! Learn from your mistakes! Grab the camera and just do it!!!
