I have been taking hand-held stereos for many years. I use a Minolta
X-700 (rather old with today's standards). All you need to do is be a
bit careful. That's all. Moving platforms (airplanes, boats) are
also great for this kind of photography. Still life? The subject
should not move but it can be alive. Cardboarding? Not really, unless
you use long lenses? Unless if any hyperstereo looks cardboarding to
you. Also, you didn't need to meet someone
at NSA to show you hand held hyperstereos. All you needed was to see
Bob Bloomberg's Tuscany, voted best show of the convention. Bob said
that he used a handheld SLR for they superb hypers. Not exactly
cha-cha, but pretty close.
