P3D 3-DX (Nimstec) from Canada: report

  I just got back my first ever set of
lenticular photos, so here's my report.
Also, in the past, I've asked for info
about ordering from Canada issues. So
here is how it worked for me.

  I sent in the roll on July 24 and got
it back on August 18. Not too bad I'd
say.

  I paid $13.28 US plus $5 for shipping
for a 24 exposure roll (= 12 lent. photos).
In the US the S&H charge is $2, outside
US it's $5, with no intermediate rate
for Canada. The $5 for Canada seems excessive
since they paid only $1.01 in postage
to mail it to me. This is maybe 50 cents
more than in the US. So the extra $3
per roll seems too high. (I don't know
how much airmail costs them to other
countries.)

  They didn't (have to) put a customs
declaraton on the envelope. The envelope
says "photographs enclosed, do not bend".
The envelope made it across the border
without any customs or GST charges.

  Exposure wise the prints I got look
good (as do the negatives from my
Nimslo). The colours are nice and bright
but not too gaudy (I used Fuji 400
speed film). The only problem is the
one mentioned by others on the list:
visible vertical dark lines on the
prints (from screen misalignment or
whatever). I'm not completely happy
with them because of this but they
aren't so bad that I'll send them back
for redo.

  The prints are cut somewhat inconsistently.
The height varies by about 1/8" from
the shortest to the tallest one. The
width is consistent since that is
presumably the width of the roll.

  Overall I'm happy. The price is
high but for one or two rolls per
year of the kids growing up, it's
worth it.
