I disagree with the sentiment here, and encourage Dr.T and anyone else to
try with expectations of good results.

Bob M., I could just as easily say, FORGET about doing portraits without a
4000W/s strobe kit, because there will not be enough light for RAZOR
sharpness. All of my natural light images are substantially less sharp
compared to my strobe work - but look nicer in other ways... It just
depends on what QUALITY you are looking for.

One of the nudes that I sold to several people as part of my second set,
both before and during the convention, is of my model Henry with a contour
map projected on her torso. I used a medium blue gel over the projector,
because I was using daylight film. This made the already questionable
lighting even fainter. This image took a FOUR SECOND exposure. There is
some slight softness in the image on her stomach, caused by her heartbeat.
Those of you who have this slide may now express surprise at the length of
the exposure...

So I think slidebar portraits are feasible.

(Edward Weston, my hero, used to expose some of his nudes for a minute or
more, depending on the lighting conditions, of course. And his headshots
probably were on the order of several seconds exposure. You just have to
do what it takes, given your technical limitations).
