Even designing a new camera from the ground up usually ends up using
existing camera lenses, not many people design their own lenses too.

For my inquiry, no...Medium format does not count. I am interested only in
35MM. Although, medium format, if done well, is amazing to see. I did not
think to specifically mention that Lenses do not count. I KNOW that even
the finest amateur makers probably don't screw with making their own
optics. So to be clear, I am referring to people that make the body, the
lens mounts, the focusing system, viewfinders, controls, film transport,
gear train, shutter, etc. I am very curious.
