Bob Maxey asks about building stereos from the ground-up:

Sort of depends on just how handbuilt you require something to be. To
one degree or another everybody's cobbling parts from other cameras
together. Are we allowed to canabalize film-handling mechanisms?
Shutters? Lenses? I think it speaks to most folks motivations. VERY
few custom stereo cameras are built for nothing more than the fun of it.
The builder is usually doing so because they desire some feature not
found on the classic 50's cameras: Full-frame images, better lenses,
interchangable lenses, etc.
Camera builder's list??? What's the address of that one anyway?
Sounds like fun.

Mike,
You can find instructions for signing up for the Society of Handbuilt
Cameras cameramakers listserve on the home page of my web site. On this site
you can also find a 5 by 7 stereo camera built from the ground up by a
camera builder with limited knowledge of the intricacies of stereo work. And
yes, the lenses used are standard issue.
I am planning a new convertible panoramic/stereo pinhole camera. Yes, Bob
that's 'pinhole' but maybe a lens version will follow. I don't make 35 mm
cameras. I am contemplating making it so that it can make pairs of 6 by 4.5
images either immediately adjacent on the 120 film or separated by one neg
for two different base configurations. Any suggestions or thoughts?
