Bob,

Check out a current PC-products catalog, such as one from "PC Mall",
Fry's Electronics, Global Computers, etc.

The SyQuest "SyJet" drive is available for $300. With it, you can have
an infinitely-expandable (in 1.5 Gigabyte increments) disk cartridge
system that is just as fast as, or nearly so, as your primary, fixed
hard disk. Cartridges are $75 each, less if you buy in quantity. This
is not a CD-ROM drive, it is a true magnetic disk drive that happens to
use swappable cartridges. It performs just like a hard disk.

The SyQuest "Sparq" drive is a 1.0 Gig cartridge system with a lower
initial cost of $200 and a lower per-cartridge cost as well.

And there are similar drives from Iomega.

There are lots of options and they don't cost an arm and a leg. 9 *gig*
drives can be had today for the cost of last year's 4 gig drives. This
trend will only continue.
