Please do not remove me from this list.
I had been getting kind of bored lately with my color film, and I have
a few friends that had shot some stereo pix with agfa scalla (black
and white slide film).
I have a roll of scalla now, but have not shot with it yet. It is
kind of expensive (but worth it). I decided to try doing some
cross-proccessed shots. Well, I ended up mixing the two ideas.
Ilford XP2 is a black and white negative film that gets proccessed C41
just like color neg film. So, shot a roll of it in my 2-D (yuck!)
slr, but I used a slide bar to take macro stereo (yeah!) pictures with
it. Well, then all I had to do was go to my local pro lab, and ask
them to run it through the E-6 chemicals, and VIOLA! Black and white
slides!!! Now, keep in mind that they have a green tint to them, but
it is preaty neat. Some people have reacted really well to them, and
others have not. They came out to dark because I didn't know at the
time that you have to re-rate the film when you cross proccess.
Ilford XP2 only comes in 400ASA, but to get the propper exposure when
making it into slide film you need to rate it at 100ASA. I figured
this out when I ran a roll in my TDC VIVID and metered at 100ASA.
I think it may be suited best for images that you want to look
"pre-1950's". But, I highly recomend experimentation. I would think
that this would be something that Jon Golden, and Dr. T would be into
trying, and Boris, you may want to shoot some nudes this way for a
classic feel.
You should be able to find a roll of XP2 for under $5 and the
proccessing should cost the same as normal e-6 so it is a less
expensive way to try B/W stereo slide shoooting.
I don't have any examples up on my web site yet, but if anyone is
interested I could scan one or two.
Don't hold me responsible if your lab won't do it, or if it causes
aliens to come down and zap the planet, but I have had no probs yet.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
